Hello Everyone,
I am pleased to inform everyone that we had a successful first event. There were 13 participants and the average rating for the information and speakers was 4. The city manager came to the event and was also pleased with the turnout. As a result of our wonderful event, we also have two new members of the Economic Summit Entrepreneur group, Mr. Guirreck Jamar Walton and Devon Turkoski.
Now it is time to plan our next event. After the discussing the planning for the next event, we came to the conclusion that once a month would be great for the members, the facility and the participants. So, I would like to see what everyone thinks about continuing our next seminar on Thursday the 28th of April at the same time. Topics they asked for include:
- How to operate a successful business
- Successful business practices
- Small business loans
- Information on Various business types (Sole Proprietorships, LLC, S Corporations, Corporations, etc.)
- Preparing a business plan
- Taxes and accounting
I would like to thank the Mixson business center for their support and everyone who helped with this first project.
Sincerely,
Mackroyce L. Corbitt, Jr.

The Entrepreneurship Group has held serveral meetings for ideas for educational events like Dothan 101. The participants would not be obligated to make all the events. They would sign up for the ones they wished to attend. We also discussed making the events/topics beneficial to two main areas: 1) Startup businesses, 2) Existing and expanding business.
Areas decided on are as follows:
- Business Planning
- Legal (Types of businesses: Corporations, Sole Proprietorships, etc.)
- Accounting (Forms of Taxes, Preparing for, etc.)
- Finance (Loans, budgeting, etc.)
- Insurance
- Marketing & Advertising
- Licenses, Permits, Zoning & how to obtain them (City, County, State, etc.)
- Contracting
These areas were decided on to begin with, although there may be more areas of discussion, we did not want to over burden the group in the beginning. We decided to do what we could in the beginning and add as we move along. The topics were given to individuals who attended the meetings to see if they could find specialists in the various areas to discuss them.
It was agreed that the discussions should last no longer than 30 minutes to an Hour and be held in the evening between 5 p.m. & 7 p.m. Times for the event may change based on participation and availability of the hosting facility. It was mentioned we could possibly continue to use the General Services Department for meetings and for the events if needed.
Getting people to participate would be up to the members, we could also see if organizations, churches and other civic groups would help get the word out. Starting with the ones we are members of. It was also mentioned that we could utilize e-mail, facebook and twitter.
